San Jose, CA – Nan Unklesbay

Nan Unklesbay was a hit at the Peninsula Stroke Association May 26, 2011 where she gave a brief inspirational talk and sold signed copies of her book. Click here to view her at the conference:View Nan’s photo here!

In recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month in May, Peninsula Stroke Association proudly presented the 11th Annual Victory Over Stroke conference in 3 locations in Millbrae, Palo Alto, and San Jose. Over 400 people attended this year’s conference that were held and generously hosted by The Magnolia of Millbrae, Garden Court Hotel and O’Connor Hospital. County Supervisor Liz Kniss, Heather Holmes, Julie Haener, and Ken Wayne of KTVU 2 graciously accepted our invitations and served as the masters of ceremonies at this year’s conference.

Nan Unklesbay, Ph.D, author of Swimming Against the Tide: Strong Recovery From Stroke”, Trish Hambridge, Tony Broccoli, and Darrell Monda all shared their inspirational stroke recovery stories with our attendees, and once again reminded us that knowing the symptoms and seeking urgent medical treatment are key in reversing the outcome of a stroke.

Publishing Memoir & Family History June 4, 2011 10:00-11:30 a.m.

From Private Distribution to Worldwide Availability

Discover and discuss the many options for publishing memoir and review key points to work to target audience and budget.

“There was no one bit of information that was more valuable than another, in my mind. It was all helpful in a very practical way. Also the input from the guests and learning from them and hearing what they were and are working on was great.”
~ Dwight, previous workshop attendee

“The info on the sources available for printing my family history project for my family members gave me some ideas for a starting point on how I might put all my information together. ”
~ Cheryl, previous workshop attendee

“I enjoyed yesterday’s meeting and found it beneficial. The exposure to a variety of approaches to memoirs and family history was particularly useful. I need to do some serious thinking about how to attack my projects…I can’t think of a piece that was missing.”
~Von, previous workshop attendee

That is where Gary Dietrich enters the picture.... “Then the thought just popped into my head, ‘You should probably put this in a book.’ ”

The idea “was fermenting for several years,” he added. Then he approached Yolanda Ciolli, who had moved from the former shop 50 Minute Photo into custom book publishing.

The coffee-table book, widely available locally in bookstores, captures a mix of varying moments.....

Sunday, May 29, 2011

By Jill Renae Hicks

The MKT Trail has long been a symbol of health and nature’s beauty for Columbia natives. Spanning nearly 9 miles, the trail was built over the old rail bed that once ran through town. But for many runners, cyclists and even walkers, the best details of the trail are largely unseen. That is where Gary Dietrich enters the picture.
